Hellenic Police (EllinikiAstynomia) is a Law Enforcement Agency and its mission is to ensure peace and order as well as citizens` unhindered social development, a mission that includes general policing duties and traffic safety. 

Furthermore, Hellenic Police prevent and interdict crime, as well as protect the State and the democratic form of government within the framework of constitutional order, a mission that also includes the implementation of public and state security policy. In its continuous mission to serve and protect citizens, Hellenic Police has responded to our times` demands and challenges by improving training, adopting a modern crime prevention policy, better utilizing science and technology and by exploiting international law enforcement cooperation. 

The Greek National Commission for Human Rights (GNCHR ΕΕΔΑ) is the independent advisory body to the Greek State on matters pertaining to human rights protection and the National Human Rights Institution (NHRI). It was established with Law 2667/1998 in accordance with the UN Paris Principles and is governed by Law 4780/2021. Its members are persons appointed by twenty institutions (independent Authorities, third level trade unions, NGOs, universities and research institutions).  

 

The Institute for the prevention & Treatment of violence and the promotion of Gender Equality “VIA-STOP” was founded in 2008, with the primary goal of combatting violence in all forms that it is expressed. Implements school outreach programs to address students’ perceptions regarding violent behaviors, addressing bullying, domestic violence and all violent behaviors in general. For that expressed purpose, the organization is implementing prevention and therapeutic programmes. 

“Via Stop” is a Greek non-profit organization with the primary objective of combating any form of violence, and more specifically: 

-Aims at providing assistance, psychological support and therapeutic approaches (to all individuals who are subjected to domestic violence

-Becomes the connecting link as needed between victims and social, legal and welfare services, and provides strategies and specialized assistance targeted at the victim’s safe exit from the violent environment.

-Creates and implements domestic violence perpetrator programs, including anger management, individual, court-appointed and group therapy sessions aiming at providing peaceful conflict resolution. 

The Athens Lifelong Learning Institute is a research and education institute, based in Athens, Greece. It has the mission to foster and enhance innovation processes mainly in the areas of education and lifelong learning, human capital development, knowledge society and social inclusion. The Institute exhibits an active interest in a number of social issues such as sustainability, social participation, civic engagement and human rights and has attempted through the implementation of innovative learning methodologies to enhance active participation and citizens’ engagement in the social and economic life.

The Center for Security Studies (KEMEA) (Kentro Meleton Asfaleias), founded in 2005, is a scientific, consulting and research organization overseen by the Minister of Citizen Protection. Its principal purpose is to conduct theoretical and applied research and studies, particularly at strategic level, on security topics and policies. 

JCT is one of the oldest and most important Jewish Communities, with a history that spans over more than 20 centuries. Nowadays, it is a Legal Entity under Public Law founded in its present form by Royal Decree in 1920.The JCT is affiliated with the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece and the majority of International Jewish organizations, like the World Jewish Congress, the European Jewish Congress etc. and is in close cooperation with almost all the European Jewish Communities and Organizations.  

The Community’s objectives are religious, educational and social. The supreme governing body is the 20-volunteer- member Assembly, which is elected every four years and the 5-member Community Council. One of its fundamental objectives is the preservation of Jewish life in Thessaloniki, the heritage of our ancestors and the memory of the Holocaust as well as combatting anti-Semitism. 

Besides the CERV-2023- EQUAL project EXODUS EU Project the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki participates in the ISF projects SPIRIT EU (Synergies to Protect Places of Worship and Religious Gatherings) and Hector-Project (Enhancing Protection of Touristic Sites in Europe) that are also funded by the European Commission. 

The Ministry of Justice, was initially established as the State Justice Secretariat in April 1833. It is entrusted with the management of judicial function, which is one of the three State functions. 

The Minister of Justice, supervises the administration of justice, namely organizational issues of the courts and infrastructure as well as economic and administrative support and guarantees the personal and operational independence of judges in accordance with the Constitutional requirements. 

At the same time, Ministry of Justice (Greece) is charged with the development of legislative initiative in basic justice sectors, in which is included the harmonization of internal law with the rules of international law.

Hellenic Police (HP)

The Hellenic Police assumed its present structure in 1984 when the Gendarmerie (Chorofylaki) and the Urban Police Forces (Astynomia Poleon) were merged (Law 1481/1-10-1984, Government Gazette 152 A). Hellenic Police (Elliniki Astynomia) is a Law Enforcement Agency according to the Law nr. 2800/2000 and its mission is to:

  • ensure peace and order as well as citizens` unhindered social development, a mission that includes general policing duties and traffic safety
  • prevent and interdict crime as well as to protect the State and the democratic form of government within the framework of constitutional order, a mission that also includes the implementation of public and state security policy
  • Hellenic Police is comprised of both central and regional Services. Hellenic Police`s headquarters is the supreme authority over these Services. Its efforts center on the fulfillment of the Force`s mission, within the framework of the Ministry of Interior`s policy. For this reason, it schedules, directs, oversees and monitors the activities of its Services, and it ensures the necessary conditions for the exercise of its authority.

In its continuous mission to serve and protect citizens, Hellenic Police has responded to our times demands and challenges by improving training, adopting a modern crime prevention policy, better utilizing science and technology and by exploiting international law enforcement cooperation.

Ministry Of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights (MoJ)

Τhe Ministry of Justice, was initially established as the State Justice Secretariat in April 1833. It is entrusted with the management of judicial function, which is one of the three State functions. The Minister of Justice supervises the administration of justice, namely organisational issues of the courts and infrastructure as well as economic and administrative support and guarantees the personal and operational independence of judges in accordance with the Constitutional requirements. At the same time, the Ministry is charged with the development of legislative initiative in basic justice sectors, in which is included the harmonization of internal law with the rules of international law. Additionally, this initiative includes development of institutional actions that widens and strengthens individual rights and freedoms and empowers the function of the democratic institutions in general.

Jewish Community of Thessaloniki (JCT)

The Jewish Community of Thessaloniki is one of the oldest and most important Jewish Communities, with a history that spans over more than 20 centuries. Nowadays, it is a Legal Entity under Public Law founded in its present form by Royal Decree in 1920. It comes under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs and operates according to Law No. 2456/1920 “On the Jewish Communities” and its own statutes. The JCT is affiliated with the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece and the majority of International Jewish organizations, like the World Jewish Congress, the European Jewish Congress etc. and is in close cooperation with almost all the European Jewish Communities and Organizations. The Community’s objectives are religious, educational and social. The supreme governing body is the 20-volunteer- member Assembly, which is elected every four years and the 5-member Community Council. The Community Administration carries out the decisions of the Community Council and its committees.

The Jewish Community of Thessaloniki, today, 80 years after the devastation of the Holocaust, has managed to restore the majority of its historical institutions and is active in many aspects of its members’ lives; it operates 2 Synagogues (Monastiriotes Synagogue and Yad Lezikaron Synagogue) and a Cemetery, a Nursery and Elementary School (The Joseph Nissim Primary School of the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki), a Summer Camp for the youth, a Community Center hosting recreational, religious, literary and artistic events and a Home for the Elderly (Saul Modiano Home for the Elderly). One of its fundamental objectives is the preservation of Jewish life in Thessaloniki, the heritage of our ancestors and the memory of the Holocaust as well as combatting anti-Semitism. In this framework the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki established the Jewish Museum of Thessaloniki and most recently, is in the process of creating the Holocaust Museum of Greece.

Despite its small numbers it is still an integral part of the society and a prominent figure in the city’s financial, social and cultural setting.

Besides the CERV-2023- EQUAL project EXODUS the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki participates in the ISF projects SPIRIT (Synergies to Protect Places of Worship and Religious Gatherings) and HECTOR (Enhancing Protection of Touristic Sites in Europe) that are also funded by the European Commission. It is also a beneficiary of the National Strategic Reference Framework (ESPA) for the Project: Digital Repository of Historical Memory and Civilization of the Greek Jewish Communities “Iosipos”, for the digitization of the archives of the Greek Jewish Communities. The Jewish Community of Thessaloniki is certified with ISO 9001:2015 for quality management.

Center for Security Studies (KEMEA)

KEMEA is a scientific, consulting and research organization overseen by the Minister of Citizen Protection, governed by common law and annually audited by chartered accountants. Its principal purpose is to conduct theoretical and applied research and studies, particularly at strategic level, on security topics and policies. Moreover, it is the think-tank of the Ministry of Citizen Protection on numerous policies, such as public order, correctional services, terrorism prevention, crime prevention, integrated border management and civil protection, as well as on various other security and societal issues. It also provides advisory and consulting risk-management services to an array of public and private organizations. To meet the growing needs of the security and law enforcement practitioners and related academia, KEMEA has participated in research projects of the Horizon 2020, ever since it was launched. KEMEA’s objective in this context, is not only the development of new technologies or the application of emerging technologies, but also the understanding of associated phenomena and the development of more effective policies. 

 

Athens Lifelong Learning Institute (ALLI)

Forms of violence: The organisation is active in combatting domestic violence, intimate partner violence, child and elderly abuse, school violence and gender-based violence. In addition, other forms of discrimination and violence are targeted, such as ethnicity-based discriminatory behaviours, homophobia, etc. All services are provided free of charge.

Targeted groups: victims of abuse and violence regardless of gender, age and ethnicity, students in all three levels of education, general population, offenders of violence. Geographical coverage: Via stop operates on a regional level for victim support, on a wider scale for perpetrator programs, and on a national and international level for training and educational services.
